Potential 2023 ODI World Cup Semifinal Qualification Rounds: Pakistan’s Mathematical Prospects To Place In The Top Four

Pakistan, who have lost their last four games and are certain to be eliminated early, is having an incredible ODI World Cup 2023. Pakistan has only won two of its six games so far, and as of October 31, they are ranked sixth in the standings. So far, the only bright spots for the Men in Green, under Babar Azam’s leadership, have been Shaheen Shah Afridi and Muhammad Rizwan. Afridi excelled with the ball, collecting 13 wickets in six games, while Rizwan leads Pakistan in runs scored with 333 from six games.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-260175″ src=”×422.jpg” alt=” image 1698429979 11zon” width=”1333″ height=”750″ srcset=”×422.jpg 750w,×576.jpg 1024w,×432.jpg 768w,×220.jpg 390w,×84.jpg 150w, 1200w” sizes=”(max-width: 1333px) 100vw, 1333px” title=”Potential 2023 ODI World Cup Semifinal Qualification Rounds: Pakistan's Mathematical Prospects To Place In The Top Four 6″>

India, the hosts, lead the standings with a perfect win record, one game behind South Africa with five wins in a row. With eight points from six games, New Zealand and Australia are tied for third place, with the former having a higher net run rate. Afghanistan moved up to fifth place after their Monday victory against Sri Lanka in Pune. To the semifinals go the top four teams.

Pakistan is mathematically guaranteed a spot in the last four, but they are essentially eliminated from contention for the semifinals.

How Can Pakistan Advance to the Semifinals of the ODI World Cup in 2023?
Pakistan still has three league games remaining. Babar’s team will move up to 10 points and into the top four if they win all three. Pakistan would also want other teams, particularly Australia and New Zealand, to lose a few of their remaining matches. India can guarantee their place in the semifinals with a victory against Sri Lanka on November 2, since the team needs 14 points to advance. In a similar vein, South Africa must also win two of their three games to advance.

Pakistan will be eliminated if Australia and New Zealand win each of their last three games to move up to 14 points. Australia or New Zealand must lose two games in a row in order for the Men in Green to advance to the round of sixteen. They must also hope that Afghanistan and Sri Lanka do not win any more games in the tournament.

On Tuesday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Pakistan takes on Bangladesh in their seventh match of the campaign. Pakistan’s chances of winning against Shakib Al Hasan’s team will be eliminated.
