Jorge Martin of Spain won the sprint race on Saturday at the Indonesia MotoGP to pass Francesco Bagnaia in the standings.

The rider with the Ducati satellite team won his fourth consecutive sprint race, giving him 328 points—seven more than Bagnaia, who finished in ninth.

“I feel great. Although starting from sixth place may not have been the ideal, at least I was able to pass,” he informed the press.

“Winning wasn’t easy… However, it feels fantastic to be in the championship lead at this time. It’s a fantasy.

He expressed optimism that he could “finish the weekend in the same way” in the main event on Sunday.

The Italian Marini, who had previously set a record lap at the Mandalika circuit on the tourist island of Lombok, ended behind Martin by more than a second.

For the first time in his career, Martin is in the lead in the MotoGP standings.

Bagnaia struggled earlier in the day, qualifying for the first time this season outside of the second round, placing him 13th on the grid.

After suffering an injury and arriving late in Lombok on Friday morning, Italian rider Bezzecchi, who is now third in the overall standings, completed an incredible performance.

Last year, MotoGP made its first appearance in Indonesia since 1997 at a brand-new location.
