India will compete in two significant ODI competitions within a month: the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup. The past champions are among the favorites for the two competitions, but they have struggled with health issues as several of their best players have been sidelined from competitive cricket owing to protracted injuries.

Among them, Jasprit Bumrah recently played well in a T20I series against Ireland. At the Asia Cup, two additional players, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, will make their international comebacks.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-145724″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-25t174140.538.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com download 2023 08 25t174140.538″ width=”1329″ height=”744″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-25t174140.538.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-25t174140.538-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1329px) 100vw, 1329px” title=”Ex-India Selector Highlights a Serious Concern 3″>

At the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, match simulations were performed on both Iyer and Rahul.

Rahul, meanwhile, is said to have developed a niggle lately, adding to doubts over his fitness.

The ODI World Cup champion Madan Lal claims that while the Indian has the experience, Iyer and Rahul’s fitness is a concern.

“The fitness levels will be my one area of worry. They have the exposure and the experience. Undoubtedly, their confidence would have improved if they had participated in a few games. They may have felt a sense of belonging to the game, which would have given them comfort that they are injury-free, Lal told Hindustan Times.

The India team is capable of winning the Asia Cup, according to Lal, a former India coach and selector, but the World Cup would provide a whole different challenge since so many great teams will be competing there.

“I am certain that India will win the Asia Cup, but any of the top six teams in the World Cup — Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa — may win. Everyone is given a chance. This benefit comes from the fact that we are playing at home. However, due to pressure, it might also end up being a disadvantage. Fortunately, they’re all seasoned players who can manage pressure, he remarked.

India’s readiness for the major tournament will be put to the test in the Asia Cup, which begins on August 30, and then they will face Australia for three ODIs after that.
