Chelsea came from behind to tie Liverpool 1-1 in their Premier League debut, demonstrating the improvement the Blues have already made under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-126117″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-on-pochettinos-premier-league-debut-chelsea-and-liverpool-drew-1-1-in-a-tense-premier-league-opener-download-2023-08-14t165258.724-11zon.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com on pochettinos premier league debut chelsea and liverpool drew 1 1 in a tense premier league opener download 2023 08 14t165258.724 11zon” width=”906″ height=”603″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-on-pochettinos-premier-league-debut-chelsea-and-liverpool-drew-1-1-in-a-tense-premier-league-opener-download-2023-08-14t165258.724-11zon.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-on-pochettinos-premier-league-debut-chelsea-and-liverpool-drew-1-1-in-a-tense-premier-league-opener-download-2023-08-14t165258.724-11zon-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 906px) 100vw, 906px” title=”On Pochettino's Premier League debut, Chelsea and Liverpool drew 1-1 in a tense Premier League opener 6″>

Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead in the Premier League’s first round following a quick counterattack in the 18th minute, while Chelsea defender Axel Disasi made his team’s debut by tying the score in the 37th minute with a close-range goal.

Pochettino said after his return to management after a year away after being fired by Paris Saint-Germain, “It was difficult from the beginning but how we grew in the game, how we found our way to play, how we started to dominate and push Liverpool deeper and deeper, I am very pleased about everything.”

In an open and chance-filled first half, both clubs also had goals disallowed by VAR checks, highlighting the reasons why the two rivals are attempting to spend more than 110 million pounds ($140 million) on acquiring defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

According to reports, Caicedo has decided to join Chelsea over Liverpool, which may be a more significant outcome than a tie given how much both teams need a ball-winning midfielder of the Ecuadorian’s skill.

But even before Pochettino took over, Chelsea seemed to be a different team, exerting an energy seldom shown at Stamford Bridge the previous season, when the squad passed through three managers.

Although new striker Nicolas Jackson failed to contribute, the hosts controlled the majority of possession and kept Liverpool at bay for significant stretches of the game.

His greatest opportunity came in the 71st minute when he broke through on goal, but Alisson Becker blocked his attempt.

The inexperience of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson was evident in the battle to dominate the game by Liverpool’s new-look midfield, which included summer acquisitions Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Insisting that his additions are capable, Klopp.

The midfielders are a touch more attacking, but all of these players can do the tasks we ask of them, according to Klopp. “Our defensive problems today had nothing to do with the characteristics of the midfielders,” he remarked. “As a formation, we were too deep and lost the half gaps. Really, it’s OK; today did not determine how our season will unfold. Let’s be upbeat.

However, Chelsea always seemed open to counterattacks, and by the time Liverpool grabbed the lead, Mohamed Salah had already struck the crossbar.

After sprinting forward, Salah passed the ball to Diaz, who slipped in and sidefooted the ball past Robert Sanchez, the new Chelsea goalkeeper.

Salah believed he had increased the advantage in the 29th minute with a precise finish, but replays revealed he had been slightly offside on his move into the area.

Chelsea, though, equalized the score in an unexpected way. Ben Chilwell headed the ball straight back into the area after Liverpool twice cleared it from a corner, leaving Disasi all by himself to nudge the ball past Alisson.

A few minutes later, Chelsea believed it had grabbed the lead, but Chilwell was just barely offside when he was sent through on goal.

Darwin Nunez, a replacement for Liverpool, came the closest to a late winner when his long shot in stoppage time was deflected just wide for a corner.

Only a dangerous-looking Chelsea counter resulted from the corner, but replacement Mykhailo Mudryk was unable to keep possession of the ball after eluding Alisson.
