Daren Sammy praises India’s cricket system and raises concerns about the trophy cabinet

Despite the absence of most of its first-choice players, India presents an XI that is capable of beating any team in the world. That is the current standard of Indian cricket. Many people believe that India is capable of choosing two equally talented teams.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-123276″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-11t133051.581-11zon.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com download 2023 08 11t133051.581 11zon” width=”1111″ height=”699″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-11t133051.581-11zon.jpg 283w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-11t133051.581-11zon-150×94.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1111px) 100vw, 1111px” title=”Daren Sammy praises India's cricket system and raises concerns about the trophy cabinet 6″>

The whole next generation of Indian cricket stars, including Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, and more, can be seen in one image. All of this is partially true, but it’s also true that despite having a lot of talent at their disposal, India hasn’t claimed an ICC trophy in more over 10 years.

Since 2018, they haven’t truly won a multi-nation tournament. Their most recent ICC triumph was the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni, and their last international competition was the Nidahas Trophy in 2018.

This is not meant to suggest that India hasn’t advanced. They reached the Champions Trophy final in 2017, the T20 World Cup final in 2014, and the finals of the 2021 and 2023 World Test Championships.

Daren Sammy, a former all-rounder for the West Indies and multiple world champion, acknowledged India’s skill but also pointed out their lack of awards.

“When you see the players they’ve been able to produce, Hardik Pandya, (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, all the guys they produced over the years, but you must also remember who’s winning the international tournaments,” Sammy said to journalist Vimal Kumar.

The captain of India’s T20 World Cup winning teams, who has won two of them, complimented the domestic cricket system for turning forth players who are world-beating in every category.

“Like I stated, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, and Jaiswal have all been performing. Despite being young, Hardik Pandya has experience on the squad. Once again, that speaks to the system in place there that continues generating these kids, Sammy said.

During the current West Indies tour, Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, and Tilak Varma made their international debuts. Jaiswal’s score of 171 in his debut Test surprised Sammy the most, despite the fact that all three players had standout performances.

“Jaiswal came to Dominica in his first game and looked like he belonged at the international level. He has 1800 runs in first-class cricket in nine matches, nine hundreds. That results from the quality of first-class cricket in India, which enables the young players to be prepared for international cricket when they arrive, according to Sammy.

Jaiswal also made his Twenty20 International debut in the third game of the series. Despite his failure, the left-hander is expected to soon advance. When India plays the fourth T20I in Florida on Saturday in an attempt to square the five-match series at two games apiece, he will have another opportunity.
