<p>After Lakshya Sen and the hot men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open badminton on Thursday, India’s HS Prannoy won the match of compatriots.</p>
<p>Sen, 21, who won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, defeated Japanese shuttler Kanta Tsuneyama in the pre-quarterfinal match 21-14, 21-16 to qualify to the next round.</p>

The Indian men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj and Chirag advanced to the last-eight round with a commanding victory over the Danish team of Lasse Molhede and Jeppe Bay, fresh off their victory in the Korea Open.</p>
<p>Chirag and Satwiksairaj prevailed 21-17, 21-11. Then, in the match between fellow countrymen Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, the former won with scores of 19-21, 21-9, and 21-9 to proceed to the Super 750 tournament’s quarterfinals.</p>
<p>Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly of India, despite their heroic attempts against Nami Matsuyama and Chiraru Shida in their round of 16 match, were eliminated. They lost 19-21 and 21-23.</p>
<p>Sen defeated the 27-year-old Japanese shuttler in 50 minutes. After easily winning the first game, the guy from Almora never let the lead slip and won the match with relative ease.</p>
<p>Prannoy fell against Srikanth in the first game but rallied to win the following two matches and go to the next round of the competition.</p>
<p>The team of Satwik and Chirag had an easy time of it, winning all of their games in a row. This season, the defending Asian champions took home victories in the Korea Open (Super 500), Swiss Open (Super 300), and Indonesia Open (Super 1000).</p>
