Rodrygo scores as Real Madrid defeats Sevilla 2-1 with Vinicius Junior out

In a Spanish league game on Saturday against Sevilla, Rodrygo scored twice to give Real Madrid a 2-1 victory. Vincius Jnior, a fellow Brazilian, was absent due to the global outcry over the racist insults he has experienced.

Due to a knee ailment, which according to coach Carlo Ancelotti prevented Vinicius from participating against Rayo Vallecano throughout the week, he did not travel with the club. His absence from the pitch coincides with a major outrage that has spread to his home country of Brazil after his racist abuse by supporters during the match in Valencia last weekend.

Even without Vincius there, Ancelotti said that the “good” mood at Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium suggested that things would be improving after the game.

“This is the proper manner, and I didn't hear any slurs. We should thank the audience, Ancelotti stated. “They appropriately backed their side by doing so. Our players were jeered, but that is expected. This kind of environment is ideal for football, therefore I hope we can have it. The previous week is past, the mood has altered, and today was encouraging. People are beginning to comprehend what is permitted and prohibited at a stadium.

The condition of Vincius' knee, according to Ancelotti, will decide if he can play in Madrid's last match of the year, which will be played at home against Athletic Bilbao, the following Saturday.

RODRYGO ARRIVES

Additionally sidelined due to injury were attacker Marco Asensio and midfielder Karim Benzema.

The only attacker in Madrid's starting lineup along with five midfielders, 22-year-old Rodrygo fared quite fine on his own.

After missing a clear chance to score early on, Rodrygo expressed some displeasure with Ancelotti for switching him off for defender Nacho Fernández with 20 minutes remaining in the game to help preserve the advantage.

Rodrygo remarked, “I wanted a hat trick, but the coach felt that was enough.

When questioned about his player's motivation to continue playing, Ancelotti said, “He wanted to score, I wanted the victory. We shared many hobbies. However, the team is always the most crucial factor.

Prior to Wednesday's Europa League final against AS Roma in Budapest, Sevilla coach José Mendilibar, who has improved the club since taking over two months ago, rested several of his star players, including attacker Youssef En-Nesyri. Sevilla will strive to capture a record-extending seventh Europa League championship.

Bryan Gil's first shot, which struck a Madrid defender and dropped to the striker in the box, was completed by Rafa Mir to give the hosts the lead in the third minute.

With a free kick that he fired around the side of the defensive wall and beyond custodian Yassine Bounou, Rodrygo equalised in the 29th minute.

In the 36th minute, Érik Lamela almost gave Sevilla the lead back as he struck the post.

After receiving a pass from Toni Kroos on a counterattack, Rodrygo scored his second goal in the 69th minute by gliding past defender Gonzalo Montiel and beating Bounou.

Marcos Ocua of Sevilla received a straight red card in the 84th minute for a studs-first challenge on Dani Ceballos.

With one game remaining, the victory put Madrid in second position and Sevilla in tenth. Three rounds ago, Barcelona secured the championship.

Seven clubs are fighting for relegation, while the other nine games in this last round will be played concurrently on Sunday.

PROMOTIONS

Granada and Las Palmas, who finished first and second in the second level, will both be promoted to the top tier.

The teams who placed third through sixth, Levante, Alavés, Eibar, and Albacete, will compete in a two-round playoff to determine which one will also be promoted.
